Radiation dosimetry

Book ·
OSTI ID:142128
This chapter presents information on photon, alpha, radon, beta, neutron and proton dosimetry. It begins with a brief discussion of dosimetric quantities and units, and factors influencing the calculation of radiation dose, then continues its discussion with data on external radiation dosimetry from varying geometric configurations and sources; these include radionuclides deposited on the ground, in a radioactive cloud or in an aqueous environment. A short discussion of alpha particle dosimetry with particular emphasis on radon is included. Beta dosimetry from point sources and beta emitters uniformly deposited on the skin is presented in several figures and tables. This chapter also provides reference material on shallow and deep dose equivalents on the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurement (ICRU) sphere from various incident beam geometries for an anthropomorphic phantom. Selected organ doses from external sources of photons and neutrons supplement extensive tables of dose factors for internally deposited radionuclides which enter the body through ingestion and inhalation.
