The use of UV-curable formulations in critical applications for the electronics industry is growing rapidly. An example of such usage is optical fiber coating which has stringent requirements for cure speed, dimensional control, thermomechanical properties and long term aging characteristics. Although UV-curable materials are often employed in situations where high cure speed is required, details of the manner in which the curing reaction proceeds and the thermomechanical properties are developed are often lacking. This study was undertaken to ascertain such information for a UV-curable adhesive system. Although the results are specific to the material used, the thermal analysis methods have general applicability to all UV-curable materials.
