High strength aluminum aerospace flight hardware exposed to harsh seacoast environments and seawater immersion presently requires high volatile organic compound (VOC) chromated primers and epoxy topcoats. Epoxy paint tends to be brittle and has low Ultraviolet (UV) exposure resistance. A unique non-leaded/non-chromated polyurethane single coat (primer/topcoat) tradenamed BOOSTERCOAT(c) has been developed for excellent corrosion protection, flexibility, adhesion, chemical and solvent resistance. In addition, coating formulation has been optimized for electrostatic spray capability and extended potlife. This report will discuss the environmental testing of BOOSTERCOAT(c) using neutral salt spray (ASTM B-117), beach exposure, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Prohesion apparatus.
