The authors report visible emission from diodes made from poly[(silanylene)thiophene]s. Devices can be fabricated by casting the polymer layer from solution. The devices reported here emit orange-red light at room temperature. The length of the oligothiophene block in the copolymer main determines the optical properties of the material. Judicious choice of the monomers in the synthesis enables us to control the colour of the emitted light in the range from blue to red.
