Production of (CF{sub 3}Br){sub 2}{sup +} and (CF{sub 3}Br{center_dot}CH{sub 3}OH){sup +} by single-photon dissociative photoionization of homo- and heteroclusters of CF{sub 3}Br and CH{sub 3}OH, (CF{sub 3}Br){sub m}{center_dot}(CH{sub 3}OH){sub n}, generated in supersonic jet expansions of a vapor mixture (9.0:304:2522 of CH{sub 3}OH:CF{sub 3}Br:Ar) as monitored over the nozzle stagnation pressure range of 400-900 torr. Dramatic changes in the short wavelength (<1100 {angstrom}) yield of either ion with increasing pressure may be understood as the result of fragmentation of larger clusters upon ionization into the respective dimer ions. The cross-section for production of a given fragment ion depends upon size and composition of the neutral progeniter and the energy of the ionizing radiation. The pressure-dependent photoion yield curves have been resolved into state-specific decompositions of a known neutral cluster into homo- or heterodimer ions. Possible mechanisms for the reaction (CF{sub 3}Br){sub 2} CH{sub 3}OH + h{upsilon} {yields} CF{sub 3}Br{center_dot}CF{sub 3}Br{sup +}(X{sup 2}E{sub 1/2},{tilde v}{ge}2) + CH{sub 3}OH + e will be presented.
