Semiconductor nanocrystals of a size comparable to or smaller than the bulk exciton exhibit a number of novel properties resulting from the three-dimensional confinement. The electronic properties of CdSe nanocrystals have been investigated previously using a variety of techniques. This talk describes measurements of femtosecond electronic dephasing using a novel mode-suppression technique. The technique enables the separation of coherently excited LO phonons from the underlying electron-hole dephasing by suppressing the quantum beats. Contributions to the dephasing from acoustic phonons and surface trapping will be discussed.
