New developments in deep hydroconversion of heavy residues with dispersed catalysts
- Enricerche and EURON, Donato (Italy)
Hydrocracking processes utilizing finely dispersed hydrogenation catalysts are particularly suited to upgrade heavy oils and petroleum residues which generally contain high concentrations of heteroatoms, metals and asphaltenes. With this study, the authors observed the effect of the reaction conditions on products yield and quality for hydrocracking experiments performed on a vacuum residue (VR) of Belaym crude (Egypt) in the presence of Mo-naphtenate and within a wide range of severities (410-470{degrees}C, 15-240 minutes). The experimental results demonstrate that the catalyst provides hydrogen in an active form for stabilization of the free radicals produced by thermal cracking so that distillate yields greater than 80% can be obtained with minimum coke production. The data describing the influence of the reaction condition on distillate and gas composition as well as asphaltene conversion are discussed and a preliminary kinetic analysis of the VR conversion reaction is presented.
