The Japanese transmutation program

The Transmutation Program in Japan spans several nuclear development areas for long-range considerations in waste management. This effort includes actinide recycle as reactor fuels and specific transmutation in so-called burner concepts. Actual burning includes development for burning in breeder reactors, as well as burning in accelerator systems. The actual experiments and results will be described, and the development plans for both burner concepts will be discussed.
