Large, plate-like crystals of the metal chalcogenides have been intercalated with a variety of organometallic sandwich compounds. They have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, neutron diffraction, solid state deuterium NMR, SQUID magnetometry and electrical conductivity. The intercalated materials all show enhanced conductivity relative to the host materials, and SnSe{sub 2}(Co({eta}-C{sub 5}H{sub 5}){sub 2}){sub 0.3}, in particular, is a relatively isotropic Type II superconductor with a T{sub c} of 8.3K. Synthetic routes to the above intercalates and their physical properties will be discussed, with a view towards design of new molecular intercalates with enhanced electrical and magnetic characteristics.
