The objective of the present research is to investigate the possibility of the enhancement of the H{sub 2}S thermal decomposition in the IGCC system by employing the hollow fiber catalytic membrane reactor. To accomplish the objective, the following major components in the analysis of the high temperature membrane reactor must be investigated: (1) high-temperature stability of the porous glass membrane; (2) catalytic properties of MoS{sub 2} and of the porous glass membrane; (3) catalytic decomposition of H{sub 2}S in a packed bed reactor; (4) catalytic decomposition of 100%, 8.6%, and 1.1% H{sub 2}S gas mixtures in the membrane reactor.
