Water use of eucalypts-A review

Knowledge of the water use of eucalypts, gained from studies conducted in many countries of the world, is discussed in relation to their transpiration and interception characteristics. The background to, and the justification for, a field measurement program to assess the impact on the hydrology of eucalypt plantations in Karnataka, southern India, is presented. The program was carried out by the Institute of Hydrology in collaboration with the Karnataka Forest Department and Mysore Paper Mills Ltd.
