Environments of the last 50,000 years in the vicinity of Yucca Mountain, central-southern Nevada

This paper discusses the Nevada Test Site which lies astride the transition between the Mojave Desert to the south and the Great Basin Desert to the north. Fossil sites that provide information on environmental change in this area are described. The author uses fossil records on this gradient to illustrate some principal features of the Late Quaternary environments of the region. Related problems in refining paleoenvironmental chronologies and reconstructions are discussed.
