The authors present the results of a ground based LIDAR monitoring program which encompased the time period of the Mt Pinatubo eruption, in the stratosphere over Virginia. Scattering levels were observed to increase at low altitudes in August 1991, and rose to a peak in February, 1992, after which the signal was observed to fall off at a logarithmic rate.
