The stress field in the fiber, the matrix and the interphase in SiC/BN/SiC microcomposites, induced by matrix cracking, was estimated experimentally from fiber pull-out lengths and fracture mirror radii. The results were different from those obtained using the constant interfacial shear stress model developed for debonded interfaces. They indicated the presence of very short debonds and significant deformations of the interphase.
