The matrix damage in a 2D SiC/SiC composite reinforced with fabrics of fiber bundles was predicted from properties of basic constituents using a finite element analysis of failure probabilities. The associated stress-strain behavior was computed. The results of computations compared satisfactorily with experimental data. The approach was then applied to simulate the strain-stress behavior of a fully dense 2D SiC/SiC.
