Performance and emissions characteristics were evaluated in a Cummins N14-410 diesel engine operating on blends of tallow ester, ethanol and high sulfur No. 2 diesel fuel. Physical properties of blends were determined. Engine performance, exhaust gas and emissions, and smoke were monitored and compared with diesel fuel. Engine performance was found to be satisfactory without significant drop in power and torque. Most engine exhaust emissions were reduced as the concentration of the tallow ester in the fuel increased.
