Browns Ferry turbine team-it`s all in the planning
This article illustrates a good example of how a project was creatively completed ahead of schedule and under budget. When the Brown`s Ferry turbine maintenance team took on the task of servicing unit 2`s turbine, the work was like building a ship in a bottle. {open_quotes}We had no room in which to work and only standard tools for the maintenance{close_quotes}, said Jim Roche, turbine manager. The big problem on the turbine floor is that there is only one single overhead crane for lifting the turbine components. All the major turbine components and support equipment are on the same floor. Each one requires a crane, and there is only one crane. There is limited laydown space. To do the maintenance properly, the team had to have a maintenance schedule it felt comfortable with, industry experience, tools yet to be invented, and money. The design method for this schedule is presented.
