Ceramic phosphates of formula NaZr{sub 2}(PO{sub 4}){sub 3} (NZP) containing alkali, alkaline earth, Nd, Zr, and Nb are prepared. According to X-ray phase analysis, IR spectroscopy, and electron microprobe analysis, the formula and structure of the phosphates are unchanged after contact with H{sub 2}O at 200-400{degrees}C and 600 atm and with chloride solutions and seawater. Leach rates are (3-7){center_dot}10{sup -6} for Cs and 3{center_dot}10{sup -5} g/cm{sup 2}{center_dot}day for Na in H{sub 2}O at 200-400{degrees}C.
