Present paper describes an experimental study on the remaining life assessment of actual steam turbine rotors by using the ultrasonic method carried out as a part of the MITI`s (MITI; Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Japanese government) five years research project on verification of Remaining Life Assessment from fiscal year 1987 to 1992. A fundamental test made it clear that the ultrasonic method is valid for creep-fatigue damage detection of long-term used steam turbine materials, Cr-Mo-V steels. Actual plant tests show the possibility that the ultrasonic technique could give a bright prospect of the remaining life assessment of the actual rotors.
