Kinetics of oxidation processes on lead electrode in H{sub 2}SO{sub 4}. 2: The growth of the PbSO{sub 4} and PbO layer

The growth kinetics of both PbSO{sub 4} and PbO layers has been studied further. The growth rate of the PbSO{sub 4} layer depends on the migration of the SO{sub 4}{sup 2{minus}} ion through the micropores while that of the PbO layer depends on the migration of the Pb{sup 2+} and OH{sup {minus}} ion in the PbO layer and the H{sup +} ion in the PbSO{sub 4} layer. The PbSO{sub 4} and PbO layers grow at the PbO{center_dot} decrease linearly with the distance from the PbSO{sub 4}/PbSO{sub 4} and metal/PbO interfaces, respectively. In the PbSO{sub 4} layer, the concentrations of the SO{sub 4}{sup 2{minus}} and H{sup +} ions decrease linearly with the distance from the PbSO{sub 4}/bulk solution interface and the largest potential drop appears at the PbO{center_dot}PbSO{sub 4}/PbSO{sub 4} interface. Yet the concentrations of the Pb{sup 2+} and OH{sup {minus}} ions remain unchanged and the diffusion potential drops linearly in the PbO layer.
