ZnN is Wurtzite structured and crystallizes in the hexagonal P6_3mc space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Zn2+ is bonded to four equivalent N2- atoms to form corner-sharing ZnN4 tetrahedra. There is one shorter (1.98 Å) and three longer (2.00 Å) Zn–N bond length. N2- is bonded to four equivalent Zn2+ atoms to form corner-sharing NZn4 tetrahedra.
