Welding and laying experience of pipelines in CRA materials

Conference ·
OSTI ID:128949
Over the last ten years there has been a gradual increase in the use of CRA materials for offshore installation. Since the first relevant offshore pipeline project laid in 1985 for Shell (Inde project/North Sea: 12 inch--20 inch O.D. in Duplex), the major operator involved in the oil and gas industry has exerted a continuous and progressive actions directed to improve the overall reliability of CRA pipelines mainly: the linepipe manufacturing methods, the girth welding and NDT procedure and the acceptance criteria for pipeline corrosion resistance. Information on a number of projects laid in Duplex and Clad material are reported, showing the progress in the adopted welding techniques and the obtained benefits. On the basis of positive result recently obtained pipeline project in CRA material may be planned for installation with more safe and economical approach.
