Polysiloxane resins, based on silicon chemistry, are formulated into a variety of coatings, linings, and surfacings which provide combinations of properties and characteristics which are not available from products utilizing older technology. A description of the chemical nature of these resins, the types of formulations available, some properties, and suggested end uses are given. The polysiloxane resins are formed by catalysis or directly by hydrolytic polycondensation in which an alkoxide silane is first hydrolyzed and the resulting silanols are condensed to a polysiloxane network.
