For a data sample of 140 pb{sup {minus}1} at a center of mass energy of 29 GeV from the TPC/2{gamma} detector facility at the PEP storage ring at SLAC, the authors have categorized all the 1-prong tau decays into four groups corresponding to the possible types of charged tracks - electron, muon, pion, and kaon. Identification of these particles is based on dE/dx information from the time projection chamber (3% resolution), energy measurements from the electromagnetic calorimeter (19%/{radical}E resolution), and hit patterns from the muon chambers (97% efficiency). The authors present preliminary results for the exclusive leptonic decays to electron and muon and for the inclusive hadronic decays to pion plus neutrals and kaon plus neutrals. They compare these results with predictions of the standard model and consider the implications for the tau 1-prong decay problem. In particular they look at the kaon content of the tau decays to check for consistency with expected values.
