Measurement of the site - selective oxygen isotope shift in YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}}

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:127805
The selective substitution of oxygen-18 and oxygen-16 isotopes into the inequivalent oxygen lattice sites in YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}} has already been demonstrated. It has also been shown that suitably doped YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}} shows several fold enhancement in the oxygen isotope shift. Measurement of the oxygen isotope shift in samples with selectively substituted oxygen isotopes can determine the contributions of the different oxygen sites to the isotope effect. This will locate the pairing-interaction within the unit cell and elucidate the role of the chain/ apical/ plane oxygens in the high temperature superconductor YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}}.
