Study on the dehydrogenation of cyclohexane in membrane reactors
- Univ. of Science & Technology of China, Hefei Anhui (China); and others
The catalytic dehydrogenation of cyclohexane to benzene in membrane reactors was studied experimentally and theoretically. The reactors` walls were porous Gamma-alumina membrane with 5nm pore diameter prepared on {alpha}-alumina supports with 200nm pore diameter by a sol-gel process membrane reactors prepared by impregnated the membrane with platinum or palladium in reservior method and the packed-bed ones with granular catalysts of platinum or palladium. These membrane reactors were compared and tested with the dehydrogenation reaction. The conversion of benzene in these membrane reactors were much higher than that in a conversional packed-bed reactor and higher than that calculated by thermodynamic equilibrium. Theoretical models have been also developed for these reactors to explain the experimental data.
