A variety of reaction and process conditions have been investigated for the co-liquefaction of waste tire rubber with coal. Tire samples used include a Goodyear Invicta tire and two standard samples, recycled tires ground to -30 mesh, and tire buffings sized at -80 mesh. The coal used is bituminous, from the Blind Canyon seam, classified as DECS-6. Parameters considered include the hydrogen pressure, the tire-to-coal ratio, the carbon black in the coal, and the nature and loading of ferric-sulfide-based catalyst.
