Effect of defocus on near-field measurement of fiber mode field diameters

An instrument has been built that measures the mode field profile of optical waveguides by the near field method. It has been used to measure the effect of defocus on fiber mode field diameters. The results obtained from measurements on two different fibers at two wavelengths are reported.
