A p type finite element scheme is formulated for the approximate solution of steady and transient viscous flow problems described by the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. A fully coupled stream-function vorticity form of the equations is utilized and the distributed parallel computations implemented by means of an element-by-element strategy. Performance and scalability studies are carried out on a representative distributed parallel system.
