The lessons learned from the North Anna Unit 1 steam generator replacement project and outage indicated that considerable time, money and material could be saved by designing and installing a revised upper restraint for the North Anna Unit 2 steam generator replacement. The existing Unit 2 steam generator upper restraint consisted of large weldments, splice and spacer plates, bolts and pins, and 144 shim plates. In order to minimize material and installation costs, a revised design for the upper restraint was developed that reduced the number of shim plates required.
