A new inhibitor for calcium sulfate inhibition
- Calgon Corp., Pittsburgh, PA (United States)
Calcium sulfate causes serious scaling problems in many industries because of its limited solubility and the decrease in solubility with increasing temperature. A new inhibitor, polyamino polyether methylene phosphonate (PAPEMP), very effectively controls calcium sulfate precipitation and deposition. In addition to excellent calcium sulfate precipitation inhibition, there are other properties of PAPEMP such as, high tolerance for calcium, calcium carbonate inhibition at high supersaturation and excellent hydrolytic thermal stability that make this molecule a unique deposit control agent in many industrial applications. The paper compares the performance of the new inhibitor with currently employed calcium sulfate inhibitors. The results of its performance in field application are also discussed.
