Defect Mask Encoder (DME) for a Content-Based Image Retrieval System

With the proliferation and accessibility of web-based Internet sites for the posting and viewing of various forms of data and information, digital watermark technology has been created to facilitate the copyright protection of digital imagery even under conditions where the original image may have been modified through image transforms such as compression, rotation, and cropping. This software represents a new application of digital watermarking for the purpose of encoding, storing, and decoding image region segmentations sometimes referred to as “drawings”, “masks”, or “defect masks”, to facilitate the description and management of large numbers of electronic images in digital libraries or databases. The technology provides a transparent, secure, and space-efficient method for maintaining these masks within digital libraries for purposes such as manufacturing, biomedical, satellite/land use, and other image-intensive applications.
