Adagio and Andante are parallel, three-dimensional, nonlinear, solid mechanics finite element programs, Adagio models quasi-static events, and Andante employs an implicit time stepping algorithm, The codes are built upon the SIERRA framework. Adagio and Andante are analysis tools for analysts as well as research tools for developers interested in material modeling, linear and nonlinear equation solving, contact, and multi-mechanics coupling. Adagio and Andante use a nonlinear conjugate gradient solution method. One of their strengths is their ability to use state-of-the-art algorithms for preconditioning. Users and developers can choose a simple preconditioner such as block Jacobi or one of several more advanced preconditioners. These advanced preconditioners dramatically reduce the time-to-solution for some problems and are thus very useful to analysts. Finite element contact in Adagio/Andante is an important and heavily used capability. Both frictionless and frictional contact is supported. Much effort has been placed on improving the contact algorithms. The result is that Adagio and Andante now solve extremely large, complicated problems involving nonlinear materials, large strains, and complicated meshes that rely heavily on the contact capabilities. One promising area of development is the coupling of Adagio and Andante with other analysis codes,- Thanks to a common architectural framework and the development of a set of transfer operators, it is relatively simple to combine independent codes into a new multi-mechanics application. One example is Calagio, a coupled thermal-mechanical code, Another is Tempo, a code that ties Adagio, Andante, and Presto, an explicit dynamics, nonlinear, solid mechanics code, together. Tempo allows, for example, Adagio to calculate initial conditions for Presto,
