The authors report on the study of Pc 5 ULF waves in northern auroral zones, with what appears to be discrete and stable frequencies of 1.3, 1.9, 2.7, and 3.3 mHz with less thatn 10% variations, observed at local midnight and predawn times. These waves have been interpreted as due to field line resonances driven by MHD wavelength or cavity modes. The authors have attempted to extract such wave features from local daytime measurements, by deconvoluting measurements made during local daytime hours. They observe what appear to be stable frequency Pc 5 waves, but with different frequencies, and the structure of the waves varies depending upon the time of the observations. The difficulty in merely extracting such signals from daytime observations is emphasized.
