Profits, margins lower during 1994-95 season
Last winter was pretty bland - it wasn`t cold, it wasn`t wet and it wasn`t as profitable as usual. It took hundreds of responses from fueloil companies throughout the country to provide the economics of the season. Who were these companies? A statistical composite of who they were, how big and where they came from is shown. The sample wasn`t a bad match with the actual market. Both the number of companies and the number of customers served fell into a useful pattern. Throughout this study, the results were divided into geographical areas. A few tables relate the figures to company size. In this study, a large company is one with more than 3,000 customers. It was found that 17% of the companies in this group had 54% of the customers. The medium sized companies with 1,000 to 2,999 customers accounted for 39% of the companies and had 34% of the customers. There were more small companies (44%), and they had only 12% of the customers.
