Tm5Rh4Ge10 crystallizes in the tetragonal P4/mbm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are three inequivalent Tm sites. In the first Tm site, Tm is bonded in a 12-coordinate geometry to four equivalent Rh and ten Ge atoms. All Tm–Rh bond lengths are 3.31 Å. There are a spread of Tm–Ge bond distances ranging from 3.23–3.36 Å. In the second Tm site, Tm is bonded to four equivalent Rh and eight Ge atoms to form face-sharing TmGe8Rh4 cuboctahedra. All Tm–Rh bond lengths are 3.10 Å. There are a spread of Tm–Ge bond distances ranging from 2.90–3.12 Å. In the third Tm site, Tm is bonded in a 8-coordinate geometry to four equivalent Rh and twelve Ge atoms. All Tm–Rh bond lengths are 3.21 Å. There are eight shorter (2.95 Å) and four longer (3.35 Å) Tm–Ge bond lengths. Rh is bonded in a 5-coordinate geometry to five Tm and five Ge atoms. There are a spread of Rh–Ge bond distances ranging from 2.44–2.57 Å. There are three inequivalent Ge sites. In the first Ge site, Ge is bonded in a 2-coordinate geometry to four Tm, two equivalent Rh, and two equivalent Ge atoms. Both Ge–Ge bond lengths are 2.88 Å. In the second Ge site, Ge is bonded in a 2-coordinate geometry to five Tm, two equivalent Rh, and one Ge atom. The Ge–Ge bond length is 2.53 Å. In the third Ge site, Ge is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to six Tm, two equivalent Rh, and one Ge atom. The Ge–Ge bond length is 2.46 Å.
