Ultrafast laser technology, spurred by the rediscovery of self-mode locking four years ago, has undergone a minor revolution. The maturation of this field means that light sources that were available to only a few aficionados in the last decade are now available to the general public. This will clearly alter the way in which ultrafast science is performed, as well as how the technology develops in the future. It was the goal of this conference to provide a forum for some of the cutting-edge developments and applications that have arisen as a consequence of the revolution. This conference covers the following areas: novel sources; frequency conversion; mechanisms for mode-locking; amplification; pulse characterization; and applications. Separate abstracts were prepared for all item for inclusion on the database.
