In their paper Jeffrey L. Hahn and Kay H. Jones addressed the issue of what the next step should be in the hierarchy after reduction, reuse and recycling (the 3-Rs) with regards to communities managing their solid wastes. The author believes Mr. Hahn and Ms. Jones should provide literature citations or their estimation methodology and assumptions. The author questions the apparent assertion by Mr. Hahn and Ms. Jones that the greenhouse gas emission of WTE are much less than that of landfills. The relative magnitude of the maximum year and average year non-methane organic carbon emission estimates for landfills is questioned. This article also contains the original authors` reply to the comments and questions.
