Orbital Recoupling Dominance in the A = 20 Isovector Giant MI Transition

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/1133675· OSTI ID:1133675
The relative importance of orbital and spin flip terms in the M1 transition between the ground and 11.24 MeV states in 20Ne is determined from a measurement of the analog transition 20Ne(π-,Υ)20F (1 +}, 1.06 MeV) with stopped pions. The M1 amplitude contains only (47 ± 16)% spin flip, in agreement with published results of shell model calculations, Excitation of 2- states by 20Ne(π-,Υ) is also observed.
