Treatment of ferrous and non-ferrous waste from nuclear power plants

According to German Atomic Energy Act, the reuse of contaminated component parts, coming from nuclear power plants, is to be given preference over their disposal as radioactive waste. Reuse of these materials requires decontamination, for which melting of the metals is a technologically effective and economically viable process. Such processes for metal melting combined with separation of the radionuclides have been developed at Siempelkamp Giesserei GmbH. The results achieved to date with regard to decontamination have been found to surpass expectations by far.
