Underserved school children in northwest Indiana, K-8, receive higher quality science teaching by consortial cooperation among St. Joseph`s College area school corporations, and Calumet College of St. Joseph. In 1993-94, new science lessons will be taught and assessed for 1,350 students in the following corporations: Rensselaer Central Schools, School City of East Chicago, Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana & Gary Diocese. Student science learning is measured by teacher-defined benchmarks correlated with science proficiency goals. Project impact is assessed through teacher, peer advisor, and coordinator observations and site visits. The Coalition is supported by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education TII and Eisenhower programs.
