The results of a study on the changes in the refractive index of the Na{sub 2}O-K{sub 2}O-CaO-Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}-SiO{sub 2} glasses after the K{sub glass}{sup +} -Na{sub melt}{sup +} ion exchange in the glass transition range are presented. A comparison with the data on the refractive index changes for homogeneous glasses is made. the mechanism of the destruction of the diffusion layer in the test glasses after the low-temperature ion exchange is discussed.
