The yields of hydrogen and helium isotopes from the fragmentation of {sup 6}Li nuclei with a momentum of 4.5 GeV/c per nucleon on photoemulsion nuclei are estimated. Evidence of processes involving the exchange of nucleons between nuclei of the relativistic projectile and the target is obtained. The distributions of fragments in the projections of the transverse momenta onto the emulsion plane are used to show that the Fermi momentum of nucleons in {sup 6}Li is 111 {plus_minus} 6MeV/c. Fragments with Z=2 are emitted from a region of size that is found to be approximately two times smaller than that for fragments with Z=1. The data on the relative transverse momentum of two fragments in their c.m.s. indicate that no prefragment excitation occurs in the reaction under study. 20 refs., 3 figs., 2 tabs.
