Industrial exploitation of ceramic melters with electric heating type EP-500 and PAMELA for vitrification of high-radioactive wastes

Journal Article · · Transactions of the American Nuclear Society
OSTI ID:107359

The report contains a brief description of the development of vitrification technology in Russia and Germany. This is followed by detailed information concerning the technical level of development of both technologies and systems and equipment currently applied with schemes, information and industrial results. Special attention is paid to the spectrum of highly-radioactive solutions processed to date and to the most important components including melter, facilities of remote control, maintenance and dismantling. In connection with the situation in Russia for processing of highly-radioactive wastes reference is made to a joint application to the Commission of European Communities. The report also contains detailed information regarding a joint Russian-German project on vitrification where experience of both above mentioned technologies will be applied.
