National organization for management and disposal of radioactive wastes in Bulgaria -- Roles and responsibilities
- Committee on the Use of Atomic Energy for Peaceful Purposes, Sofia (Bulgaria)
The final product of almost every usage of radioactive substances is a radioactive waste in some form: reprocessed nuclear fuel sources; radioactive solutions; materials which are contaminated by radioactive substances; by-products of biological tests and etc. All these substances are subject to temporary storage either till their radioactivity fully vanished and treated after that as a usual waste, or till their final collection for reprocessing and disposal in a final radioactive waste repository. The paper presented here deals with the Bulgarian organization for radioactive inspection of the registration and movement of the radioactive substances and their disposal as radioactive wastes in the country. It is important to note that the reprocessed nuclear fuel obtained from NPP ``Kozloduy`` is not kept on the territory of Republic of Bulgaria.
