Five different flat and focused transducers with frequencies from 1 MHz to 20 MHz were calibrated. Results from the ASTM standard steel ball method plus a new pinducer technique are presented and discussed. The uniqueness of each transducer`s near field is shown to be a hazardous region for measurement of flaw sizes that requires a high accuracy. The far field is confirmed to be uniform in behavior but this field also requires calibration checks of individual transducers. The focused zone of two focused transducers are discussed with respect to the NDE measurement of a flaw size in the beginning, middle and end of the zone.
