Title: A New Family of Scintillating Cerium Halide Based Materials: CeX3 ROH compounds containing Planes, Chains and Tetradecanuclear Rings

Herein, we communicate the synthesis and structural characterization of the next generation of potential cerium-based scintillators. Three intriguing structural motifs have been achieved through the use of various alcohols, wherein BuOH and PrOH lead to 1-D chains of tetradecanuclear rings, isoBuOH leads to 2-D parquet patterned sheets of tetradecanuclear rings and secBuOH leads to a zig-zag 1-D chain.
