The results of spectroscopic studies of luminescence of He, Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe excited with {alpha}-particles from {sup 238}Pu and the fragments of {sup 252}Cf fission are reported. The gases under study contained small amounts of water vapor. In the gas-aqueous mixtures of light inert gases (He, Ne, and Ar), the A{sup 2}{Sigma}{sup +} - X{sup 2}II{sub 1} bands related to the 0-0, 0-1, 1-0, and 1-1 transitions in OH molecule were excited. The structures of the 0-0 (309 nm), 1-0 (283 nm), and 1-1 (314 nm) bands are analyzed with a resolution of {approx}1.0 {angstrom}. For the Ar-H{sub 2}O mixtures of varied composition, the emission kinetics at 309 nm are measured. The relevant mechanisms of the population of the OH molecule levels are discussed. 15 refs., 6 figs.
