In regulated power environments, the objective of the hydro-thermal dispatch is to define the operation level of each unit in the system in order to supply the system load at a minimum cost, while satisfying the operational and reliability constraints. The problem stated above is a dynamic problem when hydro units are present; hydro units can store potential energy in the water and release it later in the form of electric energy. Hence, the operation policy with minimum cost in a given time interval may not be the same as the operation policy with minimum cost in the entire optimization horizon. The present cost may decrease because of the incremental hydro generation; however, the future cost will grow due to less hydro resources available to supply the load. In this paper, the transaction evaluation in hydrothermal utilities is analyzed in deregulated power pools. The paper examines the problem of price definition in utilities with hydrothermal resources. The approach is tested on a Power System and the results are discussed.
