Measurement of relative branching ratios for decays of {Lambda}{sub c}{sup +} and D{sup {minus}} charmed particles
The production of charmed {Lambda}{sub c}{sup +} baryons and D{sup {minus}} mesons was observed in neutron-nucleus interactions at neutron beam momenta of 40-70 GeV/c. In both cases, two decay modes were detected, namely, {Lambda}{sub c}{sup +} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0}p{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}} (59 {+-} 13.4 events) and {Lambda}{sub c}{sup +} {yields} K{sup *{minus}}(892)p{pi}{sup +} (17{+-}5.4 events) for {Lambda}{sub c}{sup +} baryons and D{sup {minus}} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0}/{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup {minus}} (52 {+-} 11.4 events) and D{sup {minus}} {yields} K{sup *+}(892){pi}{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup {minus}} (14 {+-} 4.5 events) for D{sup {minus}} mesons. The relative branching ratios [{Gamma}({Lambda}{sub c}{sup +} {yields} K{sup *{minus}}(892)p{pi}{sup +} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0}p{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}})]/[{Gamma}({Lambda}{sub c}{sup +} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0}p{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}})] = 0.29 {+-} 0.09 and [{Gamma}(D{sup {minus}} {yields} K{sup *+}(892){pi}{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup {minus}} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup {minus}})]/[D{sup {minus}} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup {minus}}] = 0.27 {+-} 0.09 were determined for these decays. The experiment was carried out using the BIS-2 spectrometer on the Serpukhov accelerator. 14 refs., 4 figs., 3 tabs.
